Learn about free technical assistance to reduce overdose deaths and legal liability related to substance withdrawal in jails. Opioid overdoses are a leading cause of death in the U.S., and many individuals with substance use disorders face challenges in county jails. Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) are proven to lower recidivism and overdose deaths among incarcerated individuals.
The Iowa HHS is offering a free program for Iowa county jails to understand clinical and legal standards for managing substance use disorders and expanding access to MOUD. Participants will receive ongoing support from a team of correctional health and substance use disorder experts.
