LE Training: Reducing Overdose Deaths & Legal Liability for Jails

Discover free technical assistance aimed at reducing overdose deaths and legal liability from substance withdrawal in county jails.

Opioid overdoses are a leading cause of death in the U.S., and many individuals with substance use disorders end up in jails that lack resources to manage withdrawal effectively. Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) can significantly lower the risk of recidivism and overdose deaths among incarcerated individuals. With the rise of fentanyl in illicit drugs, providing MOUD is crucial for improving outcomes and reducing legal risks for jails.

Iowa HHS offers a free technical assistance program for county jails in Iowa to enhance their management of substance use disorders and expand access to MOUD. Benefit from personalized support from a team of experienced correctional health and substance use disorder experts.
