EXCLUSIVELY FOR ICAP MEMBERS: ICAP is sponsoring two of Iowa State University Extension’s Intro to Planning & Zoning Workshops. The Pool will cover the cost of registration for ICAP member representatives who wish to attend either the October 1 workshop in Storm Lake, or the October 3 workshop in Waterloo. These two workshops will be hosted exclusively for ICAP members.
Per Iowa State University’s Extension & Outreach, the Introduction to Planning and Zoning for Local Officials workshop is a three-hour session designed to introduce the basic principles of land use planning and development management to elected officials, planning and zoning officials, and board of adjustment members without formal training on the subjects.
Using case scenarios in a highly-interactive format, each workshop highlights issues frequently faced in the land use process, such as the roles and responsibilities of the planning and zoning commission, the board of adjustment, and the elected council and board of supervisors.
Each workshop will also highlight legal issues frequently faced by local officials. Such issues include variances, special uses, nonconforming uses, spot zoning, hearing procedures, and conflicts of interest.
Tuesday, October 1 | 6 PM - 8:3O PM | Boulders Conference Center, Storm Lake
Thursday, October 3 | 6 PM - 8:30 PM | Black’s Building, Waterloo
Please note any number of member representatives are eligible to attend. A light dinner will be provided to all workshop attendees at 5:30 PM the evening of the event.
